Apple plummeted 45%, global PC market encountered a “cold winter” and the top five brands fell across the board

[Tinydeal News]The first quarter of 2023 has passed. From the current perspective, the global tourism, transportation and other industries have recovered and ushered in a long-lost “spring breeze”, but this “spring breeze” does not seem to have entered the consumer electronics field. According to the information previously paid attention to by Tinydeal, the smartphone market in 2023 is still in a decline compared with 2022. Similar to the smartphone market, the personal computer market is also facing greater downward pressure.

Recently, relevant research institutions have released the latest data. In the first quarter of 2023, global PC shipments were 54 million units, a 33% decrease from the same period in 2022, which is already the double-digit decline in the market for one year in a row. Among them, the decline in laptop products reached 34%, while the decline in desktop computers was about 28%.

Currently, Lenovo, HP, Dell, Apple and Asus are still among the top five PC manufacturers in the global market share. Among these five manufacturers, HP had the lowest decline of 24.1%, and Apple had the largest decline of 45.5% compared with the same period in 2022, while the other three manufacturers had the lowest decline of about 30%. For details, please refer to the figure above.

Fortunately, this situation will not last long. Relevant research institutions said: At present, demand from all customer groups is still suppressed, and further interest rate hikes in the United States, Europe and other markets have brought greater pressure, and reducing inflation is the top priority. Consumers and businesses will remain cautious about spending on new PCs in the short term, and the market is expected to start a sharp recovery in the fourth quarter of 2024. The PC market has strong fundamentals to drive long-term growth, and as the global economy enters a recovery period in 2024 and beyond, the transition to Windows 11, as well as the updates and new demand for digital education, will be the key drivers of PC market growth.
